So I finished my Painting Challenge the other day! Fancied
trying out a few things different with this model, notably the new GW Technical
paints (all have been used on this model) and creating a unit filler (have
never done this before). I’ll be honest and blunt, I’m not usually the biggest
fan of unit fillers but in principal I think they are acceptable when they
enhance a unit aesthetically, have reasonable effort put into them and tell a
story. Conveniently this also helps me with my painting commitments for Caley
Carnage as I have run out of empire character models for my knight unit (not
using plastic empire knights damn it!).
Anyway so the Nurgle Lord, I loved this model, was an utter
joy to paint (no conversions at all), all parts were easily accessible and
great to highlight. I used Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust on the steel, Nilliac
Oxide on the copper/bronze, Nurgles rot on the good bits and blood for the
blood god for the…errr blood? All of these paints are just excellent and I
cannot recommend them enough! I liked the difference in painting this model to
what I normally do, very muted (only one colour blue used on the cloth) and the
effects paint providing the spot colours that make the model stand out. This
paint scheme would really benefit from a lighter basing colour (snow for
example) to make the model pop.
The story of the piece is Valten yelling “Come at meh bro!!”
to the nurgle lord while the empire cav charge to support him (you will see
this when the model joins the knight unit). Anyway I hope you like it, I will
post this along with the other entrants in one complete post for voting at the
end of the month. Can’t wait to see what everyone produces as Joe’s executioner
is simply excellent!
Nice one! Looks ace. Got any shots of the unit together?
