This is my first blog written since being adopted into the cosy warm protection of Rich's awesome blog. I'll aim to post more regularly now, if I have anything interesting to show or share with t'internet. And I'll get round to writing more about myself and how I got to this point in the next blog too. But enough of me, down to the business of GAMESDAY UK 2013!!
I promised myself I would go to GamesDay once i found myself back in the hobby saddle this year (having never been to one before), and after scouring the GW site for any mention of it I finally got hold of a couple of tickets the day after they were released. The real motivation behind it was not to buy anything in particular, but primarily to see the Golden Demon models up close after being blown away by the multi-issue galleries in this year's White Dwarf.
Other than that I left myself "open" to it, and ready to catch any tidal forces that grabbed me when i got there! I'm not a mega ForgeWorld hobbyist, and although I enjoy the Horus Heresy books so far, and love the fluff etc behind 40K, I knew I wouldn't be uncontollably giddy at the new Primarch models or some new super heavy mega tank.
So, after a decent drive down south and a STUNNING pre GamesDay curry (www.rosemurree.co.uk/) I awoke on Sunday to a timeline full of hyper #warmongers....and news of an almighty queue at the NIA! Clearly the GW buses were staring to arrive early! I wasn't that bothered as figured I would get in anyway on time, but maybe not pick up the first T-shirt/Horus Heresy book/FW seminar ticket.
Sure enough inside it was busy, and the wall of warm bodies hit you as soon as you entered the very large arena hall (no aircon NIA?) I decided to geek it up slightly and wear my @Corehammer T-shirt, which was a semi-random twitter purchase. Turns out there was a decent CoreHammer crew in town, and almost immediately I was chatting to one guy (Kevin maybe?) in a grey CH hoodie. Throughout the day I kept bumping into fellow CH T-shirt wearing gamers, quick shake of the hand and intro and chat - it felt like being in a secret society! Turns out NIA security weren't too keen on their balaclava look....check their Twitter feed! Great guys, certainly made my day more fun.

So inside the arena I made my way past the ForgeWorld displays and was immediately drawn to the GW/Citadel stands. There was a MASSIVE queue forming for the ForgeWorld shop area, presumably to get the new/ltd release books and figures. I'll be honest it was amazing to see the pro painted models, even if the majority of them had been seen in White Dwarf already. To see them in the "flesh" was incredible, as it let you see the quality of the painting and the skill and subtlety of the layering/blending.
