Battle Report: LizOrcz vs WoC

Hey guys a quick wee battle report to let you know how I got on using the Lizardman list I wrote the other week. I had Scott (@_wee_men) round for a gentlemanly preparation game in advance of his tournament début at the Scottish Open at the weekend! In fact both he and Mike (@stuntymike) were present so hopefully the two of them will be kind enough to do a wee blog report (Nudge Nudge!) to let everyone know how they got on and how great an event it was. By all account Pash (@kingpash) has done an incredible job keeping the twitters updated, my jealously reached levels well in excess of 5000 at not being there!

So I was using my lizard list I spoke about on Friday (found here) and Scott was using the following WoC Filth:

+ Lords
* Daemon Prince
Chaos Armour  Demonic Flight  Level 4 , Lore of Death, Mark of Nurgle (
Chaos Familiar  Scaled Skin  Soul feeder
Charmed Shield  Dragonbane Gem Warrior Bane

+ Heroes

* Exalted Hero
Army Battle Standard Disk of Tzeentch Halberd Mark of Tzeentch
Burning Body  Third Eye of Tzeentch
Dragonhelm  Potion of Foolhardiness  Talisman of Endurance

+ Core

* Chaos Chariot Mark of Khorne

* Chaos Warriors
Champion  Musician Standard Bearer
* 18x Chaos Warrior 18x Halberds  18x Mark of Nurgle Banner of Swiftness
* Marauder Horsemen Musician * 5x Marauder 5x Flails 5x Mark of Slaanesh, 5x Throwing axes
* Marauder Horsemen Musician * 5x Marauder 5x Flails 5x Mark of Slaanesh, 5x Throwing axes

+ Special
* Chimera Flaming Breath  Regenerating Flesh

* Gorebeast Chariot  Mark of Nurgle

+ Rare
* Skullcrushers of Khorne
Champion  Musician Standard Bearer
Gleaming Pennant * 4x Skullcrushers of Khorne, 4x Enscorcelled Weapons

+ Dogs Of War
* Ghorgon

So we decided to play Dawn Attack as Scott had never played it before so it seemed like a good idea. I had to deploy first and placed my Slann, temple guard and skink priests down as a single deployment so I could anchor my army around the leadership bubble. Everything went well and I got everything down except one scar vet within 12" of the slann.

Scott was not quite as lucky and had a more scattered deployment however he did roll a 6 and stole the initiative to get first turn!

Turn 1 WoC
In true Warrior fashion, Scott surged forwards and in his magic phase irresistibly cast Spirit leech on a Kroxigor reducing it to 1 wound.

Turn 1 Lizards
My turn 1 went rather well, one Scar Vet charged and wiped out a unit of marauder cav. I chaffed up a unit of Skullcrushers so that the frenzied over run path would take them into the charge arc of my ancient steg. The rest of the army shuffled forwards for shooting  Notable I kill 4 warriors with the salamanders, took 3 wounds off the Ghorgon, killed a chariots with shooting and took a wound off the skull crushers. The death of the chariot caused the Tzeentch BSB to panic despite a leadership 9 re roll!! In the magic phase I killed one skull crusher with a basic searing doom.

Turn 2  WoC
Scott declared a load of charges, the ghorgon was reduced to one wound from a stand and shoot reaction and the marauder cav lost two on the way in charging skink skirmishers. The chimera and ghorgon both charge a skrox unit. The skull crushers barrel into the skink skirmishers on the right flank and annihilate them but over run to provide a 3" charge for my Ancient Steg ( ;) ). Scott failed to cast any spells due to my channeling and his poor rolling! In combat the ghorgon and chimera decimate the skrox unit but still have 3 ranks for stead fast leadership re rollable 10 cold blooded and obviously hold! I manage to kill the wounded ghorgon.

Turn 2 Lizards
In retaliation I declare a load of charges: the ancient steg charges the flank of the crushers and a scar vet charges the gorebeast chariot. I jostle around and line up a salamander incineration on the warriors (killing 8) and set up lots of poison goodness. In the magic phase I get off wildform on the ancient steg (strength 7 impacts, filth!), iceshard blizzard on the crushers and earthblood on the templeguard (popping a wound back on a kroxigor). In the shooting phase another marauder horseman unit is wiped out, he loses a few more warriors (who panic) and the daemon prince even loses a wound! In combat the ancient steg outright kills 2 crushers and leave the final one on 1 wound, needless to say the crushers break and flee off the board but did manage to cause a wound on the steg! The scar vet causes 3 wounds on the gorebeast chariot (predatory fighter ftw!) and runs the foul chariot down. The Chimera breaks the skrox but chooses not to pursue and reforms to charge the steg. Crucially one kroxigor and the skink priest escape to hold their points!

Turn 3 WoC
With very little remaining the chimera charges the steg in the rear. The daemon prince charges the other unit of skrox and the BSB and warriors rally. In the magic phase scott casts purple sun but I dispel scroll it ending the phase! In combat the chimera does no wounds but the steg does 2 in return and holds on a stubborn leadership 10 cold blood (lizards ftw) and reforms to face the foul abomination! The daemon prince miraculously loses 2 wounds from stand and shoot and some kroxigor attacks but regains them all from soul feeder (and slaughters many besides!). The brave skrox hold however!

Turn 3 Lizards
In this turn it spells pretty much the end for scott, I consolidate my forces and envelope his warriors and bsb, poisoning off warriors to a man. The Scar vets are poised to rear charge the Daemon prince or the BSB aswell next turn. The Slann goes mental and Scott's dice further abandon him and I get off, spirit leech on the BSB, earthblood on the templeguard (another wound back on the steg), miasma on the chimera, wildform on the steg and iceshard on the chimera! Man I love Wandering Deliberations!!! The chimera is mulched by the ridiculously over buffed steg leaving Scott with just his Daemon prince and BSB.

Conclusion
Needless to say we called it a day there and estimated a 19-1 to me as I probably would not be able to kill off his DP and BSB. I absolutely love this list, it has soo much flexibility and midfield power. Scott was admittedly very unlucky with some crucial rolls but thats the thing with wandering deliberations and all these shooting units, I force my opponent to roll inordinate numbers of dice and sooner or later they will fail something. It is the absolute opposite of a gunline which relies on a few key rolls (which can have massive pay offs) and is all about chipping away steadily but surely.
