Orcz Iz Da BEST!!
Hey Guys!
Its been a while since I wrote up a decent blog post so I thought I would chuck something out and give you an update on what I am planning over the next few months! As some of you may know (twitter followers) I just bought a my first house and while I wont be moving in til October (ish) time I need to start planning and paying for a lot of stuff. Part of that is saving as much money as possible and to do this I have decided to sell my Ogres at the end of June. I am going to be massively sad to do this but it is for the best and I need every penny I can get a hold of to pay for all the fun things for my house.
I only have 3 or 4 more Ogres to paint now so the project is really coming to an end. To be honest I am a painter more than a gamer so if I have nothing left to paint then I'll get bored very quickly! So with that in mind I decided to start an Orc and Goblin army having loved them since way back when I play Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat. My paint scheme will be a more muted, light green than the luminous vibrant green GW paint their orcs. In fact it wont be so far off the art work image above. I'm also going to be scaling back the size of the army from the Ogres, while it was awesome to own such a massive horde of fatties I have never used them all and painting them became really tedious when I knew I would likely never use them!
So with that in mind I will be aiming to have just 3000-4000pts of Orcs rather than the 6000-7000pts of Ogres. This will give me some options for 2400pt lists and means I could still play 3000pt games if I wanted. I will also be building this army up gradually over several months expanding from 1200 to 1600 to 2400 to 3000pts rather than buying it one massive purchase. I'm going to theme this army around Grimgor Ironhide (using him as my Warboss if not as himself) with loads of black Orcs. In fact because I am not a huge fan of the Savage Orc or Boyz models I will be using the black orc models as them as well. While pricey I think this will look awesome as an army and I will make sure that the models are equipped as befits them gaming wise. Eg my inevitable savage orc big un unit with extra hand weapons will be black orc bodies with tow hand weapons and bare, unarmoured heads. My chariots and boar boyz will have black Orc riders and I have some comical ideas for my doom divers and rock lobbas.
Detail wise I will be using the blood effects that I used on my Ogres (http://paint-hammer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/blood-and-gore-effects-on-my-ogres.html) and will also be looking to add tribal tattoos, "dags" and checkers to the armour in classic orc goff style. My Basing will be simple sand, rock, tufts and grass to match my folding gaming board. I'm really looking forward to starting this project and I am aiming to have the first 2400pts finished by this time next year!
Anyway there are still a few things left that I need to do on the Ogres:
Finish 2 Ironguts
Paint Alternate BSB
Finish a Gorger
Paint a Sabretusk
Paint a Standard Bearer Ogre
Apply Blood Effects and Tattoos to 3000pts of Ogres (Urgh!)
Finish 5-6 movement trays.
Once this is done I will be selling the army after the Cry Havok tournament so if anyone is interested in buying the Ogres drop me a line! I was hoping to sell the whole lot to one person but would consider splitting it to two 3000pt armies so let me know if you would be interested!
